About

An original copper plate engraving on laid paper by English artist George Virtue (1684-1756) titled "King Henry VII", 1736. This engraving has been matted with matting from Holland, filet from Italy and shrink wrapped. (Please mind glare, there is a wavy texture in some photos from the plastic shrink wrap.) Matted size: 19.75" x 15.75". Image size: 11" x 7". In excellent condition. Henry VII (1457-1509) was the King of England and Lord of Ireland from his seizure of the crown on 22 August 1485 to his death. He was the first monarch of the House of Tudor. Henry attained the throne when his forces defeated King Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field, the culmination of the Wars of the Roses. George Vertue (1684 – 24 July 1756) was an English engraver and antiquary, whose notebooks on British art of the first half of the 18th century are a valuable source for the period.
