He moved to Paris as a young man and studied at the National School of Fine Arts; there, he was a student of artist Joseph-Robert Fleury. Following this training, Meunier attended The School for the Decorative Arts where he was trained in both classical and modern design, these skills would later influence his poster graphics. Subsequent to his education, Meunier's posters were exhibited in salons throughout Paris, giving his work notoriety. George Meunier was a prolific artist at the turn-of-the-century influenced greatly by Cheret, the founder of the advertising poster movement. Meunier succeeded Cheret at the Chaix printing house as principal artist and director. He worked as a poster artist for only a short time, making a career change to a book illustrator, which he pursued until the end of his life. Regarding the publisher Edmund Sagot (1857-1917) Edmond-Honoré Sagot , born in 1857 and died on April 6 , 1917, is a bookseller , art dealer , publisher of prints and original posters . In 1881 he founded the house “Ed. Sagot” in Paris. This establishment still exists under the name “ Sagot - Le Garrec ” and is one of the oldest art galleries still in operation. "Colossus in Front of the Temple of Wady Saboua, Nubia" is a 19th century half-folio sized duo-tone lithograph from the "The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt and Nubia" volume of David Roberts’ large folio edition, published in London by F. G. Moon in 1843. The lithographs were prepared by Louis Haghe (1806-1885) from drawings and paintings by Roberts. The resultant large folio editions of 'The Holy Land' and 'Egypt & Nubia' are considered by many to be the most beautiful lithographically illustrated works issued in the 19th century. This half page lithograph depicts two colossal statues that stood in front of Temple of Wady in Nubia, each measuring 14 feet high and 5 feet across at the shoulders. Both figures hold a long staff with a symbolic rams head and disc on top. The second colossus lies on the ground. Three guards are in conversation with two other individuals at the base of the upright statue. Nubia is the area between Aswan in southern Egypt and Khartoum in central Sudan. It was the site of one of the earliest civilizations of ancient Africa...

Kerry Lee (1903-1988) Cambridge pictorial poster map Image size: 45x58cm Original lithographic poster Published by Pictorial Maps Limited, Kerry Lee's own company The first edition of this map was 1947; this is a later edition showing as it does Fitzwilliam College in its new location on the Huntingdon Road where it moved in 1963, but still referring to it as Fitzwilliam House - it became a college in 1966. Well known as a creator of pictorial maps of British cities from the mid 20th century, he generally draws a self-portrait in the bottom corner by his signature - as here, where he is seen (mustachioed and bearded, and clad in a green tunic) with his ever-faithful dog Jim. Educated at Reading Schools of Arts and Science, the Slade and the Sorbonne in Paris, he subsequently assisted his step-father, an architect named Mr Harvey, as draftsman. Following the Depression Lee set up 'Associated Artists' at Blandford Studios off Baker Street, with a group of other commercial artists. During World War 2 he was based in Hertfordshire creating detailed cut-away drawings of German aircraft, and after the war - still at Blandford Studios - published a series of pictorial maps, both those as Travel Posters for British Railways and also his own publications. "View Towards the Pyramids" is a 19th century full folio sized hand-colored lithograph by David Roberts from his monumental publication "The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, and Nubia", published in London in 1846. It depicts a scene of a boat on the Nile, along with several smaller boats. Saccara (Saqqara), near Memphis, the original capital of Egypt, can be seen in the background with its ancient Step Pyramid of Pharoah Djoser. This was the first Egyptian pyramid, designed by the physician and architect Imhotep. Pharoah Snofru’s (Sneferu) failed design Bent Pyramid and the subsequent replacement Red Pyramid can be seen in Dashour (Dashur). These structures preceded the more famous pyramids in Giza. This lithograph is professionally framed in a gold-colored wood frame, double cream-colored mats and it is glazed with museum quality archival material. The print is in excellent condition. Moon in 1847. The lithographs were prepared by Louis Haghe (1806-1885) from drawings and paintings by Roberts. The resultant large folio editions of 'The Holy Land' and 'Egypt & Nubia' are considered the greatest lithographically illustrated works issued in the 19th century. The print is presented in a gold-colored wood frame with a decorative inner trim, with a cream-colored double mat. It is in excellent condition. The lithograph depicts the Fortress of Ibrim in Nubia in the background, which had been a Roman and an Egyptian fortification for centuries due to its strategic elevation, allowing a view of large portions of the surrounding desert. Men are securing the boat in the foreground for the night, taking down its sails. A herd of cattle drinks and cools themselves in the water on the left.
