About the Item

Balmoral Winter Scene by His Majesty King Charles III (created when he was HRH Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales) - Hand Signed Limited Edition Lithograph. Belgravia Gallery has been honoured to be associated for over 25 years with the artworks of HM King Charles III (created when he was HRH The Prince of Wales). Anna Hunter, the gallery owner, wrote a handwritten letter to the Prince asking him if he would consider making signed lithographs from his beautiful watercolours which could be sold in aid of his charities. The gallery subsequently worked with the Prince for over 10 years publishing some 18 different editions and raising over £ 4 million for the Prince’s Charitable Foundation. The familiarity and freedom of the countryside around Balmoral have inspired some of His Majesty’s, finest watercolours. This view captures the dramatic qualities of the mountains and forests and makes use of strong contrasts of light and dark. The gestural painting creates an impression of a landscape full of energy, movement and changing light. Areas of the paper left white, and delicate washes of colour, help to evoke a twilight glow as shadows fall across the landscape at the end of a winter’s day. Lithographs were made from the Prince’s original watercolours. The paper was made at St. Cuthbert’s Mill in Somerset and carries a special watermark. The printing of the image had been supervised by The Prince of Wales who signed each numbered copy.
