About
GRANT WOOD ( 1891 - 1942)
APPROACHING STORM, 1940 (Cole 19) Lithograph, edition 250 as published by Associated American Artists. Image 11 3/4 x 8 7/8 inches. Excellent example with full margins and in very good condition. Grant Wood only produced a few prints, around 20 or less. He died prematurely at the age of 51. Little is written about Wood's incredible lithographic technique. The subtlety of his rendering is created by a series of very fine small lines that create full round forms and are then printed in a beautiful gray ink. A very unique handling of the lithograph.
One of Wood's most dynamic compositions.
WPA, Americana, Folk Art, Impressionism, Realism, Farms, Regionalism
