Signed lower right, 'Andre Brasilier' (French, born 1929) with number and limitation number lower left, '100/150'.
Born to an artistic family in 1929, Andre Brasilier attended the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts before receiving the Florence Blumenthal Award (1952) and the Premier Grand Prix de Rome of painting (1953). Brasilier resided at the Medici villa from 1954-1957, a privilege extended by the French Academy to prizewinners until 1968, and also received the Prix Charles-Morellet at the Salon de la Jeune Peinture in 1961.
A self-proclaimed admirer of Gauguin, Brasilier's work frequently includes themes or motifs comprising music, the ubiquitous character of nature and its seasons, his wife as muse and horses. Brasilier has exhibited widely and with success around the world, including in the New York Findlay Gallery, the Galerie de Paris, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Japan, Germany, South Korea and the Netherlands. Brasilier is additionally the first painter invited to exhibit in Château de Chenonceau.
