This limited edition photograph: 30"x30" edition of 5 is signed on reverse.
An ice laden fence stands atop a frozen block. The composition seems to be created entirely of snow and ice, the architectural elements below the surface are so completely coated and frozen. A light composition of white from the snow and ice fade into the light blue sky.
This photograph is from the series, "Nearly West" by Walker Pickering and depicts an frozen landscape with ice coating a fenceline. The warm whites of the frosted ice against the cool blue sky creates a unique atmosphere in this photograph.
Walker Pickering is an artist and educator based in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is an Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he has taught photography since 2014. His work employs documentary aesthetics, and he uses photography as a means to get access to people and places that might otherwise be inaccessible. Walker's work has been exhibited throughout North America, and is included in a number of private and public collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and The Wittliff Collection of Southwestern & Mexican Photography. He is the recipient of the 2013 Clarence John Laughlin Award, and he regularly teaches and lectures on his work.
