The dynamic of certain vines and tree trunks in nature are re-inspired by Stephanie Blumenthal when she isolates their contorting shapes and movement by highlighting them in black. This results in bold, gestural lines, calling to mind the work of a more lyrical Franz Kline painting. They are further re-imagined when the solitary, unbridled black and white vine is placed in front of a block of white and grey transparent color- a truly revolutionary illustration of nature’s patterns and form. You will never walk in the woods the same way again! The image is complimented with a modern black frame with AR non-glare glass.
Artist Statement:
I live in Western Massachusetts, in the forested Berkshire Hills. Hanging from the branches, twisting around the trunks, I find the overlooked, camouflaged vines to be visually stimulating. I isolate the vines from their chaotic surroundings and try to provide them with an opportunity to be seen by others as they appear to me.
