About the Item

One World Trade Center #15 by James Bleecker Contemporary color photograph of New York City's Freedom Tower with sunlight as viewed from the Hudson River archival pigment print on watercolor paper, unframed & made to order 16 x 26 inch image, 22 x 32 inch paper size, edition of 25, $2500 unframed Also available in the following sizes: 24.6 x 40 inch image, 30.6 x 46 inch paper size, edition of 15, $4,500 Artist Statement: My first glimpse of the unfinished Freedom Tower convinced me to document its construction. That rainy evening, security lights dimly traced a framework that filled my vision and disappeared into the clouds. Of the many buildings I'd photographed over the years, few presented such a visceral experience. Between 2011 and 2014 I photographed the Freedom Tower’s transformation from skeleton to curtain wall. Features that held my attention were its dominance of the Manhattan skyline (the World Trade Center site was still mostly barren); its apparent, although not actual, twisting gesture; and its penchant for casting trails of mist off its summit during cool mornings. I continue to print favorite exposures from among the thousands I made. "Not only does James beautifully document this complex project, he captures a sense of the tragedy of 9/11 and the uplifting spirit of the new construction and the reclaiming of the skyline." – David Childs, architect of One World Trade Center More about the artist: James Bleecker photographs the landscapes and architecture of his native New York State. Since 1983 his work has spanned independent fine art photography and commercial architectural photography. Much of his work has been commissioned by museums and historic preservation groups in the Hudson River valley. About James’s work, Edgar Munhall, Curator Emeritus of The Frick Collection, has written, "James's work is powerful and mature. Rigorously composed and technically perfect, his photographs can reduce you to tears by their beauty." • Horizon Fields 5 (Minimal Landscape Photo of Blue Skies and Golden Wheat Field)
    By Lependorf and Shire
    Located in Hudson, NY
30 x 30 inches Limited Edition Archival Pigment Prints edition of 25 This image is part of a series of abstracted landscape and ocean views by the Philadelphia based artists called 'Horizon Fields'. This square format image is an abstracted view of clear blue skies and golden wheat fields. About the work: The foundation for our work is the photographic image with the optimal quality of light. Selecting the interplay of composition, form, rhythm, and line is the focus for our imagery. Integrating these elements in the computer is the next stage in the process of merging our visual and intuitive sensibilities toward a completed vision. Different perceptual effects arise from recording the world in photographs as opposed to interpreting it in paint: Our goal is not to emulate painting. Conceptual work in all mediums has blurred the line between photographers who make art and artists who use photography. The digital medium has established itself in the natural continuum of art history and the ongoing relationship of art with technology. This work forces us to consider a more serene world while reminding us that no contemporary experience is unmediated; technology touches everything. The use of the computer as a tool does not create; it assists creativity resulting in a synthesis of disciplines to be realized as a limited edition. The combination of archival pigment inks on Crane Fine Art paper framed with archival mattes and backboards insures permanence in excess of 175 years. The creative process will always remain in the mind and the soul of the artist. About the artists: Stan Shire is Professor Emeritus and former chair...
