About the Item
Denis Darzacq's "Fake Stars" series present images of sky views with odd points of light - stars? UFO's? satellites? One's imagination can create a story behind these, but the artist is capturing views through a window where the glass pane reflects some interior light, a view ever-changing as the indoor and outdoor light change through the course of the day.
French photographer Denis Darzacq was born and raised in Paris, the city in which he still lives and works today. He graduated from the ENSAD, the French National School for Decorative Arts, in 1986, and started his photography career following the French rock music scene.
In 1994, he began a series exploring the nocturnal life of Parisians entitled Only Heaven, which he exhibited at various photo festivals. In 1999, the French Ministry of Culture commissioned him to produce a body of work on French youth.
In more recent work, Darzacq has focused on portraying young adults using their bodies to express an exuberant sense of freedom from the limitations life has placed upon them. In his two series La Chute and Hyper, adolescent street dancers from the exurbs of Paris performed their leaps, jumps, twirls and other gravity-defying maneuvers against urban street scenes or inside Hyper markets filled with dazzling displays of colorful merchandise. The dancers appear suspended in mid-air, floating and frozen in impossible positions.
Darzacq’s photographs are in many international collections, including the Centre Pompidou, Paris; the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City; the Caldic Collection, Netherlands; the Sir Elton John collection; and Bidwell Projects, Ohio. He continues to exhibit around the world, from Phnom Penh to Geneva, from Sydney to Buenos Aires. In 2012, Denis was awarded France’s prestigious Niepce prize.

The Robin Rice Gallery proudly announces SUMMERTIME Salon 2019, an annual photography exhibit featuring gallery artists as well as a few newcomers. This year’s opening reception will be held on Wednesday, July 17th from 6pm - 8 PM, the show will be on view until September 22, 2019. Rice has brought together the works of 60 gallery artists and nearly a hundred photographs for this salon-style exhibition. From floor to ceiling, the walls of the gallery are a mosaic of various size photographs in sepia, color and black & white, expertly hung to fit together like pieces of a puzzle. “This is my favorite exhibition even though it takes months to curate and a week to install,” says Rice. “I love the moment when a viewer is first drawn to an image. Sometimes in’s indefinable; a moment when the viewer not only shares but reconnects to an experience remembered.” Each year, the Summertime Salon matures and Rice’s annual masterpiece is revealed to showcase an exhibition stronger than the year before. Rice has a close relationship with the works of her photographers, and strategically curates the show to best exemplify the artists’ strengths, remaining cohesively linked by Rice’s aesthetic. color, water, tropical, swimming, beach, ocean, sun, sunset, sunrise, sky, tropical, waves, swimming, vacation, sea, sunset, golden, wave, surf, Hamptons, East Hampton, Georgica Beach...Category
