Artist Statement:
These photographs span the last decade of nearly four that I have worked in the Hudson River valley. While I have photographed landscapes, towns and cities, I have chosen a selection of rural scenes for this show. All are in Columbia County except “Allee,” (Tuxedo Park) and Quimby Farm (Marlborough).
Recently I have come to prefer sepia-toned black and white prints over color. Some photographs in this selection were originally printed in color. I regard my recent sepia-toned prints as distinct interpretations. Rather than numbering these prints in sequence with the old, I have begun new editions.

- Shirokuro XXVII (Black and White Abstract Photo of Lilypads on Water)By Lependorf and ShireLocated in Hudson, NYlimited edition archival pigment print, edition of 10 26 x 39 inches unframed About the work: This image of highly contrasted water lilies floating on a still water's surface is one is a series completed by the artist duo in 2008 called "Shirokuro", meaning Light and Dark. "The foundation for our work is the photographic image with the optimal quality of light. Selecting the interplay of composition, form, rhythm, and line is the focus for our imagery. Integrating these elements in the computer is the next stage in the process of merging our visual and intuitive sensibilities toward a completed vision. Different perceptual effects arise from recording the world in photographs as opposed to interpreting it in paint: Our goal is not to emulate painting. Conceptual work in all mediums has blurred the line between photographers who make art and artists who use photography." The digital medium has established itself in the natural continuum of art history and the ongoing relationship of art with technology. This work forces us to consider a more serene world while reminding us that no contemporary experience is unmediated; technology touches everything. The use of the computer as a tool does not create; it assists creativity resulting in a synthesis of disciplines to be realized as a limited edition. The combination of archival pigment inks on Crane Fine Art paper framed with archival mattes and backboards insures permanence in excess of 175 years. The creative process will always remain in the mind and the soul of the artist. About the artists: Stan Shire is Professor Emeritus and former chair...Category

- Ankony Farm ( Contemporary Rural Landscape Sepia toned Photograph with Barns)By James BleeckerLocated in Hudson, NYAnkony Farm pigment print on watercolor paper 13 x 16, edition of 25 $1500 20 x 24, edition of 25 $2500 This Sepia-toned print of Ankony Farm was taken by photographer, James Bleecker. The photograph depicts the barns on a farm in Rhinebeck, New York. The light reflects beautifully over the landscape, shining through an overcast sky. Artist Statement: These photographs span the last decade of nearly four that I have worked in the Hudson River valley. While I have photographed landscapes, towns and cities, I have chosen a selection of rural scenes for this show. All are in Columbia County except “Allee,” (Tuxedo Park) and Quimby Farm (Marlborough). My photography spans four decades of living in the Hudson River Valley. While my Dutch ancestors settled here early - Bleecker and Verplanck are common place names - I don't know what, if any, pull that fact exerts. Certainly I'm attracted to the layers of time exposed here; in ancient stone walls, leaning barns, faded mansions and mill towns. The valley exudes boom and bust, love and leavings. About the Artist: James Bleecker photographs the landscapes and architecture of his native New York State. Since 1983 his work has spanned independent fine art photography and commercial architectural photography. Much of his work has been commissioned by museums and historic preservation groups in the Hudson River valley. About James’s work, Edgar Munhall, Curator Emeritus of The Frick Collection, has written, "James's work is powerful and mature. Rigorously composed and technically perfect, his photographs can reduce you to tears by their beauty." Collections: Berkshire Museum Barry...Category
