About the Item
'Freeway No. 5' oil painting on wood panel by artist Ryan Reynolds. The work is from Reynold's "Free Way" series, which considers contemporary city life from the point of view of moving through a kaleidoscope of cars in traffic. Reynolds subject matter comes directly from his life. The places he inhabits and passes through, the objects and spaces both utilitarian and aesthetic, serve as a point of departure for his investigations in paint. Combining the worlds of realism and abstraction his work creates a place for reflection and renewal, where the familiar is reconstructed with new visual potency.
Reynolds is a tenured Associate Professor at Santa Clara University, where he teaches painting and drawing. Recent solo exhibits include The Free Way at b. Sakata Garo and Ebb and Flow at the Napa Valley Museum. Recent invitational and juried group exhibits include Waterlines at New Museum Los Gatos and the Contemporary Landscape at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art.
Reynolds’ works are included in the permanent collection of Bakersfield Art Museum, the Irish National Collection, St. Mary’s College Museum of Art, and the Collection of the County of Alameda - which includes a commission of three paintings on permanent display at Highland Hospital, CA.
