John Goodman
Labyrinth no. 3

2001

About the Item

'Labyrinth No. 3, 2001' by John Goodman. The artwork is 36 x 48 inches and it is framed in solid wood. Signed and dated by artist. Excellent condition. From Andra Norris Gallery in California. Goodman’s signature restrained palette and impasto brushwork dominate his paintings and sculptural works that often speak of isolation and eternity. There is an excitement in the paint and its “movement”, and a beckoning for the viewer to remember things — memories or ideas — seemingly long lost. Goodman’s work has been deeply influenced by the Bay Area Figurative Movement which grew out of the work of David Park, Richard Diebenkorn, Nathan Oliveira and others. Nathan Oliveira was a personal mentor to Goodman. Goodman has exhibited in New York, Chicago and San Francisco.  His paintings reside in private collections in North America, Europe and Asia

    By Stephanie Peek
    Located in Burlingame, CA

The complete installation includes 52 original works that are each 10 x 10 inches. Can be hung in an assortment of ways. The artwork comes with a template for installation as shown below. The series started following 9/11 with the bombing of the World Trade Center in NY. and continues to today. Stephanie Peek's "Uniform Language" is a constellation of small painting on alabaster-coated wood panels featuring camouflage patterns of nations worldwide. Peek’s fascination with these patterns stems from her observation of nature (including her studies of flowers, for which the artist is well known), and compositions of shapes and color relationships. When hung in the configuration shown, the overall dimension is 77 inches tall x 132 inches wide. The artwork can hang in a variety of configurations. Each camp painting is 10 x 10 inches. Fascinated by how various countries use camouflage patterns to represent and to disguise themselves and their military equipment, the artist explores how countries see themselves in this pattern language that speaks of power and fear, while also considering each painting a prayer for peace. Artist's statement, Early in the 20th century, the United States military adapted the nature studies of American painter Abbot Thayer...

  • Reflections on Crossing VLVIII
    By Anne Subercaseaux
    Located in Burlingame, CA
Shades of blue-grey and cobalt at play in Anne Subercaseaux's wonderful 'Reflections on Crossing VLVIII', oil on canvas. Anne Subercaseaux finds substance in the insubstantial, in paintings that freeze the ephemeral patterns of reflection and shadow. In her muted, almost monochrome palettes, images seem familiar but still elusive. The precise silhouette of a bridge girder or a windblown branch moves into focus and out again, a fleeting glimpse from the corner of the eye...
