Jennifer Hornyak
Fiori Bianchi - small, floral, intimate, still life oil and collage on canvas

2021

About the Item

British artist Jennifer Hornyak’s love of flowers is reimagined in this pretty oil painting called Fiori Bianchi. (Fiori bianchi means ‘white flowers’ in Italian) A bouquet of white flowers sits in a delicately designed and colourful vase set against a rich golden background. Known for her abstract and figurative work, Hornyak is inspired by both German Expressionism and the early 20th century French Fauvist masters such as Matisse whose style of painting used colour in non-naturalistic ways. She achieves such rich textures by applying layer upon layer of glaze. “I don’t want to do flowers--flowers. As I always say, God does those!” Jennifer Hornyak She studied at the Grimsby School of Art in England. In 1961, she moved to Montreal where she attended McGill University, the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal and the Centre Saidye Bronfman. Hornyak has exhibited throughout North America and Europe including the Paris World Exhibition in 1987 where her work was shown alongside that of Modigliani, Picasso and van Dongen. Hornyak’s work is represented in many private and corporate collections.
