About the Item

Richness, elegance, creative diversity, and emotional characterization are the hallmarks of this Texas artist born in 1966. When combined with his dramatic use of lighting, shadow, and color, his canvases quickly create a mood of gentle and vivid emotions. Even more significant is Mr. Gonzalez’s sense of detail, not only in the realism of his subject matter, but in the attention he takes to prepare his canvases and panels. Primarily self-taught, Mr. Gonzalez has gained invaluable experience through extensive book studies and by attending museums. Mr. Gonzalez’s paintings, created in oil have won numerous awards including the Grand Prize in International Artist Magazine’s Still Life Competition 2002 and Finalist in the 2006 Competition. He was recently accepted into the traveling museum exhibition, “The New Reality: The Frontier of Realism in the 21st Century.” This exhibition was displayed in 10-15 museums across the country from 2008-2011. In the twenty years that he has been painting professionally, he has held a number of one-man and group shows, and has developed a following of private collectors and admirers throughout the United States and Europe. His organization memberships include The American Society of Classical Realism, Oil Painters of America, the American Artist Professional League, and the International Guild of Realism.

    By John Morfis
    Located in Sag Harbor, NY
A life size trompe l'oeil oil painting of a dried horseshoe crab. The background is painted with large textured brushstrokes, the light teal blue reflecting in the eye of the crab. Framed in a black wooden frame with a silvery inner edge. Framed Dimensions 26 x 21 inches BIOGRAPHY John Morfis was born in Glen Cove, Long Island in 1976. His humble beginnings made pursuing a career in art difficult and paradoxically necessary. Fixated on making things aesthetically pleasing, John made an extreme departure from his family life when he chose to base his life on art. Surrounded by mechanics, welders, and otherwise trade workers John had a tough time expressing his interest in a world much more utilitarian and much less expressive and impractical. With an extraordinary desire to be an artist and a grant awarded, John was able to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting from the University of Hartford in 1998. While there John studied oil painting under American realist Stephen Brown. John’s first solo show took place in 2007 at the Ellen Traut Collection Gallery in Hartford, CT and was a near sell out. Since then John has had success up and down the northeastern coast of the United States working with various galleries and collectors. His work has also appeared in various group shows at the New Britain Museum of American Art in Connecticut. ARTIST STATEMENT Each painting, although a portrait of a tired hand...

  • Le Romaine
    By Dale Zinkowski
    Located in Wenham, MA
Le Romaine is an original oil painting on panel. It is framed in a water-gilded gold frame. The overall dimensions with the frame are approximately 10x14 inches. Master Still Life painter Dale Zinkowski was born in New York and his earliest memories of painting and drawing were from his Grandfather's own work, which hung throughout the home. Fascinated by the world around him, and the ability to capture fleeting moments on paper, he began to draw and paint from nature almost exclusively. From 1993-97, he attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City where he studied the Reilly method with both Marvin Mattelson and John F. Murray. Inspired by the techniques, and hungry for more information, he began copying from the old masters at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  When Murray moved his studio to Tucson, Arizona, Dale followed and focused his studies on the palettes, methods, and materials of artists such as Velazquez and Rembrandt.  In 2012, Dale attended the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, where he pushed his understanding of traditional techniques and materials even further while drawing and painting master copies in museums and painting landscapes in the countryside.  In 2013, Dale returned to New York City, where he immersed himself in the full-time program at Grand Central Atelier studying under Jacob Collins, Ted Minoff, Will St. John and Colleen Barry...

  • Radishes III
    By Dale Zinkowski
    Located in Wenham, MA
Dale Zinkowski is a master of still life. His work, reminiscent of Golden Age Dutch still life painting, glows with light and subtle, quiet beauty. This original oil painting shows a bunch of beautifully ripe radishes on a dark ground so that their color shines. The herringbone texture of the linen this piece is painted on adds a subtle depth. This piece is framed in a beautiful warm silver frame, its overall measurements being approximately 11x14 inches.
