David Konigsberg
Night Season (Impressionistic Oil Painting of Tiger Striped Cat on a Porch)

2016

About the Item

56 x 58 x 2 inches oil on canvas, white wood frame Through expressionistic gestures and a sophisticated handling of paint, David Konigsberg's works take on a life of their own, so that even inanimate objects seem filled with energy and intent. This painting captures a delightful scene of a lazy cat taking a nap in the abundant late afternoon light on a porch. David Konigsberg is a conceptual realist who works across media and painting genres to portray transitional spaces, metaphoric moments and alternative histories. A long-time member of the Gowanus and Red Hook artist communities in Brooklyn, he is now based in Hudson and employs the area's landscapes as the setting and sometimes subject of his work. The artist’s work has been exhibited throughout out the United States and has been featured in The New York Times, Chronogram and Brooklyn Journal and numerous art and culture blogs. David Konigsberg lives and works in Hudson, New York. • 214, 216 State St. (Fauvist-Style Suburban Landscape Oil Painting)
    By Dan Rupe
    Located in Hudson, NY
Contemporary Oil Painting of State St. in Hudson, NY by Dan Rupe Oil on canvas 18 x 24 inches This colorful depiction of cool gray and yellow houses in the sun was painted by Hudson, NY artist Dan Rupe. The buttery yellow house stands out against its pastel blue surroundings alongside a wood sided townhouse. Paint is applied loosely to the canvas in thick, vivid strokes, lending the painting a very palpable texture that is characteristic of Rupe's work. Bright swaths of color applied with bold strokes thick with paint are his signature techniques. A new series of ‘en plein air’ paintings rediscover the charming town of Athens, NY where the diverse architecture spans over three centuries and the city layout has essentially remained the same since the late 19th century About the artist and work: Dan Rupe paints only from life, his composition ruled by his intuitive sense of formal order. He begins covering his canvas with a deep crimson wash. This ground gives his brilliant pure color , applied with an expressive, direct gesture, an electric charge. No matter how often or how long one looks at a Rupe painting, it is always the present tense. The tone of his palette, the freshness and clarity of primary colors, reflects an optimistic attitude, an intrinsic love of life. Rupe studied at the Interlochen Arts Academy and the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts.
