Alfred De Breanski Senior Oil on canvas Signed and inscribed on the reverse Canvas Size: 24 x 36" (60 x 90cm) Outside Frame Size: 35 x 47" (87.5 x 117.5cm) Free shipping worldwide ALFRED De BREANSKI Snr Alfred De Breanski was a distinguished landscape painter who became famous for his resplendent views of the Welsh and Scottish Highlands; he also painted many views of the Thames. Often bathed in a flood of golden light, these landscapes usually feature water and cattle or sheep on grassy banks; sometimes a solitary figure is seen the distance. Breanski belonged to the real stamp of those landscape painters who nimbly seized moments of the day. He had a great passion for the Highlands and perhaps more than any other, caught the atmospheric influences of the undulating landscape. Born in Greenwich...

Country Cottage
Located in Hillsborough, NC
Late 19th/early 20th century oil on canvas painting in the manner of Abraham Hulk the Younger (1851-1922), this painting was acquired by Saltire Gallerie with a larger painting signed by Hulk the Younger, (just SOLD). Presented in a period decorative gilt frame, the painting is of a cottage in a woodland with cattle by a pond, a little black dog and man and a woman standing by. In the distance is a glimpse of a river and grasses, framed by trees and an overcast sky. Hulk is renowned for his treatment of the changing season from summer to autumn, and the golden leaves and fading greens in this painting suggest this changing time of year. Hulk is the son of a well known Dutch maritime...

19th Century pair of Scottish landscape oil paintings with sheep & cattle
Located in Moreton-In-Marsh, Gloucestershire
**PLEASE NOTE: EACH PAINTING INCLUDING THE FRAME MEASURES 19.5 INCHES X 31.5 INCHES ** Robert Gallon British, (1845-1925) On a Scotch Hillside & On the Cliffs Oil on canvas, pair, both signed with old labels verso Image size: 11.75 inches x 23.75 inches (each) Size including frame: 19.5 inches x 31.5 inches (each) A lovely pair of Scottish landscape paintings featuring sheep and cattle by Robert Gallon. The first depicts Highland sheep on a hillside with a Scottish loch below. The second painting shows Highland cattle grazing on cliffs overlooking the sea. At the time of these paintings, Gallon was living at 32 Alma Square in St John’s Wood and they were most likely painted during one of his excursions to the Highlands. Robert Gallon was a landscape painter born in Deptford, Kent in 1845 to the artist Robert Samuel Ennis Gallon (1807-1867) and his wife Cecilia Ann Russell. He lived with his family at Evelyn Place in Deptford. He was most likely tutored by his father; however, his subject matter was inspired by artists such as Benjamin Williams Leader and George Vicat Cole. Gallon began exhibiting at the Royal Society of British Artists in 1868 and in 1873 made his debut at Royal Academy from an address at 12, Tavistock Row, Covent Garden. He was a regular contributor to both galleries, continuing to exhibit at the RSBA until 1893 and at the RA until 1903. He also exhibited at some of the smaller establishments including the Hampstead Art Society, Mendoza Gallery and St James’s Gallery as well as at provincial galleries. By 1876, he had moved to 28 Alma Square in St John’s Wood. He married Catherine Elizabeth Atkinson on 18 July, 1877 and together they had 3 children...
