About the Item

This luminous New Hampshire White Mountain oil painting of Mount Chocorua at twilight was painted by contemporary American artist William R. Davis (1952-). Davis was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, grew up in Hyannis Port, MA and became well-known in New England and across the country as a self-taught artist of luminist marine and landscape paintings. Oil on panel, signed lower left, also signed and dated on verso along with inscribed title "Chocora (sp) at Twilight," along with a Salmagundi Club NY exhibition label, and housed in a fine giltwood molded frame. Notice the fox in the shadows catching a meal. Dimensions: 18 in H x 36 in W, actual; 25.5 in H x 43.5 in W, framed.
