About the Item

The scene depicts a chapel which is situated within a walled enclosure in a woodland setting. A woman and child stand in the foreground and watch a man chopping down a fallen tree for firewood. Birds fly above from the chapel’s tower, as though scattered by the ringing of the bells. The painting portrays a scene of tranquil, everyday life in the countryside.
