About the Item

Signed lower left "Pieter Smoor" and dated 1966. Titled "Iglesia San Antonio" on old Mendocino Art Center label verso. A semi-abstract landscape showing a view of the dome of a renaissance style church and other buildings on a verdant hill-side Born in Holland in 1899, Pieter Smoor had, by the 1930s, established a studio in San Diego. He worked in oil, watercolor and ceramics and made many trips to Mexico to paint and study. During 1937-38, he was elected president of the San Diego Fine Arts Society.
