A lone tree below a distant moon is framed by mauve, amber and cerulean in this atmospheric landscape Peter Hoffer. The artist's skilled rendering reminiscent of the landscapes of Lorraine or Constable is finished with a layer of resin, a practice of the 18th and 19th Parisien Salons. The work evokes nostalgia for classical, romantic forms and periods.
Peter Hoffer holds an MFA. from Concordia University and degrees from the University of Guelph and OCAD University. He has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Paris, Montreal and Berlin.
Hoffer's paintings can evoke nostalgia for romantic forms and periods. In his new work, he explores fashion and still life using trompe l'oeil imagery and vintage collage. These works are housed in plexiglass boxes. Hoffer has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. His paintings are held in many private, corporate and public collections including the Musée des Beaux Arts, the Musée du Quèbec and the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.
