Max Flandorfer
Max Flandorfer, a plein air painter, is always seeking to capture the spiritual and humble quality of nature. His work evokes a restful, contemplative stillness that he seeks, both in life and his art. Growing up in Miami, Flandorfer spent most weekends and summers outdoors in the Everglades, or on the water soaking up the rich color, and beauty of the tropical landscape. He lived in California for over 20 years and currently resides in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Mostly self-taught, Flandorfer was forever drawing and sketching as a kid, but the beautiful landscape and rich artistic heritage of the Monterey peninsula's artist colony was the deciding influence on his later works. An illustration instructor, Jane Miller of Monterey Peninsula College, encouraged him to study early California greats such as Granville Redmond and Guiseppe Cadennaso, whereby they helped to influence his early palette and style. Although Flandorfer’s current work is uniquely his own, he owes a debt to the early pioneers of California Impressionism. With so much of that landscape quickly disappearing, he tries to capture the spiritual beauty and glimpse of paradise we all seek in our lives. Flandorfer exhibited at Monterey Peninsula College (student /faculty show), Ohr O'Keeffe Museum of Art and “Juried Gulf States Competition 2006.” He is a member of the California Art Club (painting patron).

- "Locomotive Train in Snowstorm, " Guy Wiggins, American Impressionist, WinterBy Guy WigginsLocated in New York, NYGuy C. Wiggins (1883 - 1962) Locomotive Train in Snowstorm, 1957 Oil on paperboard 8 x 10 inches Signed lower left; signed and dated on the reverse Guy Carleton Wiggins is best known for his impressionistic snow scenes of New York in 1920's. Wiggins lived in Old Lyme and Essex where he operated an art school. The Connecticut country-side was conducive to his impressionist technique of plein-air painting and broken brushwork. Ironically, although his work includes many fine Connecticut landscapes, he is best remembered for some snow scenes of New York City. Like many other American Impressionists, Wiggins had one foot in the city and the other in the country (Vermont Hillside, South Londonderry). Wiggins was born in Brooklyn, New York, went to England with his family as a boy, received an English grammar school education, and traveled widely abroad. He was the son of a prominent artist, Carleton Wiggins, a painter in the Barbizon style who studied with George Inness and admired Anton Mauve and Dwight Tryon...Category

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Lu Haskew 1921-2009 "Life is good to me. Being able to go to my studio five days weekly and paint for several hours, living in a supportive community, having family and friends who encourage me--all have contributed to helping me become an artist. Being fortunate to study with some of the artists I admire has kept me painting from the garden, people and my favorite things. With the support of galleries, teaching and doing demos, how could I do anything else? My goal is to try to be the best I can be by always being a student, looking for new ideas and stretching my horizons." Upon retirement from a 33-year teaching career, Lu rented a studio in Loveland and began concentrating on her oil and watercolor painting. Learning from artists she had followed and admired throughout the years her painting became a full time career that lasted 17-years. Beginning in 1992, she studied with renowned painters Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, Joyce Pike...Category
