Beautiful American impressionist oil painting of Potomac River with Obelisk and sailboat by Maurice Molarsky (Russian/American, 1885-1950) dated 1914. Signed and dated lower right corner. Condition: Very good; professional restoration done on minor areas of lifted paint; wear around canvas edges consistent with age and use. Presented in gilt-toned wood frame. Image Size: 14"H x 18"W. Framed size: 17.50"H x 21.25"W. Russian born, Maurice Molarsky was a figure, portrait, and still-life painter in classical style. He also did an occasional marine scene. Molarsky settled in Philadelphia where he was a student at the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art. He also studied in France and England and the Philadelphia Art Alliance. Molarsky was a fellow of the Pennsylvania Academy and a member of the Allied Artists of America. Exhibition venues included the Pennsylvania Academy, Corcoran Gallery Biennials, Pan-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco in 1915, and the Philadelphia Sketch Club.

About Maurice Molarsky (Artist)

Russian born, Maurice Molarsky was an American figure, portrait, and still-life painter in the classical style. He also did an occasional marine scene. Molarsky settled in Philadelphia, where he was a student at the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art. He also studied in France and in England and at the Philadelphia Art Alliance. Molarsky was a fellow of the Pennsylvania Academy and a member of the Allied Artists of America.
