Jean-Marc Boissy
High-Angle Shot of a Forest of Towers with Blue Roofs and Green Checkered Floors

About the Item

Incredibly, the artist had his painting hand broken during the making of this artwork. He couldn't help but paint, so he decided to use his left hand to finish this painting. This artwork depicts a forest of towers, viewed from the top, of different heights but identical in building : square rooms with green arched windows with a brown or copper fence, blue roofs, a red collar on pillars, and ocher walls with purple stones. This piece is not framed. Jean-Marc Boissy is a talented and promising French artist. His unique and very personal artistic style, with an obsession for repetitive motifs painted with great meticulosity, evokes the colorful world of a psychedelic M.C. Escher.

    By Helen Bellaver

"Abstract 64," is a contemporary Abstract painting by San Jose-based artist Helen Bellaver. In this work, Helen layers a medium onto her canvas or paper to create a subtle texture, which she then layers her acrylic paint on to create depth and detail. This work creates a sense of energy as the eye is drawn to the rich black and relieved by golden tones of cream as it intertwines itself into the foreground of the painting. Helen Bellaver is an abstract expressionist living in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she has been practicing for the last thirty years. Her work has evolved into expressions of black. To the artist, black brings her a sense of calm and is at the forefront of her works. She uses it as her foreground, and in the background, she has layers of creams, whites, blues, ochres, browns, reds, etc. The mark-making on her works comes directly from the genre of Abstract Expressionism...
