Northern Nocturnal Landscape is a colored oil painting on canvas realized by Johann Friedrich Hesse in the early XIX century. Canvas dimensions: cm. 120 x 90 The artwork is hand-signed by the artist on the lower margin. Includes contemporary gilded wooden frame: cm 132x102 Johann Friedrich Hesse (1792-1858) He was the son of a musician living in Magdeburg, Saxony. He began his studies at the Magdeburg Provincial Art School, proceeding later to study at the Royal Academy of Dresden under Schubert and Retsch. Finished his studies, Hesse became a very popular portraitist but he was famous also for his beautiful landscapes. In 1818 he settled in Hamburg, where he lived until 1838 and then he moved to Berlin.
