Special Christmas offer. This magnificent impressionist oil on canvas dated 1898 by Emile Gerard depicts an impressionistic street view of life in Paris during the late 19th century and strongly resembles the works of Edouard Leon Cortes and Eugène Galien-Laloue. The captivating impressionist painting depicts the hustle and bustle of a busy Parisian square. While it bears a signature in the lower right "Emile Gerard", we were so far unable to find out more about this artist. Given the quality of the work we believe that "Emile Gerard" might be a pseudonym. As many celebrated painters of that period had signed exclusivity contracts with leading galleries, they sometimes created paintings which they signed with a pseudonym to make some more money on the side. Eugène Galien-Laloue is a good example for this "trick" as he is known to have used more than 6 pseudonyms to sign his works. Oil on canvas measures 66 on 40 cms.
