Edmond Marie Petitjean
Le village au bord de la riviere

About

Edmond Petitjean gained his very substantial reputation as an artist by devoting his art and soul to the small villages of the French countryside and to the simple folk who passed their humble lives within the confines of these towns. Petitjean loved the way the villages seemed to rise out of the soil upon which they were based, and seemed to be a part of the bountiful nature that sustained them. Of course, he depicts a time before modern chemistry, engineering and mechanics had intervened between man and nature; before asphalt, telephone lines, drywall, and steel and concrete had transformed the countryside. This skillful painter has captured forever a fleeing moment of a day long past in a gentle, simpler world.
