About
A fine late 19th century oil on canvas depicting ‘The Golden Rays of Autumn’ in Ashdown Forest in Sussex by the very popular Victorian landscape painter Daniel Sherrin (1868-1940). The painting is presented in a newly commissioned fine quality gold metal leaf frame. Inscribed and titled by the artist, verso.
As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the finest condition it can be for its age, having just been cleaned and re-varnished. Clients should also note that fully insured, tracked and signed for international shipping is complimentary.
Ashdown Forest was a medieval hunting forest after the Norman Conquest but it also has a history before that going back to prehistoric times and, in recent times, it was a location used by A. A. Milne for his Winnie the Pooh Stories.
Sherrin was a very popular British landscape artist of the late 19th and early 20th century specialising in Highland vistas and evening river scenes of the Home Counties of England. King George V commissioned a picture of Sandringham from Sherrin, a painting that still hangs in the royal collection at Buckingham Palace today.
