‘On the Lyn, North Devon’ by Charles Smith (1843-1917).
A large fine original 19th century river landscape oil on canvas depicting an angler fishing the River Lyn in North Devonshire by the eminent Victorian landscape artist Charles Smith (1843-1917). The painting is signed by the artist and dated 1878 and further inscribed verso. It is sold here in a superb quality, newly commissioned, bespoke gold metal leaf frame.
As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in excellent condition, having just been professionally cleaned, restored and re-varnished. Clients should also note that tracked and signed for international shipping is complimentary.
Between 1857 and 1908 Charles Smith exhibited more than 50 landscapes at the Royal Academy, 30 paintings at the British Institution and well over 100 with the Royal Society of British Artists at the Suffolk Street Gallery.
