About the Item
Artist Comments
A quiet riverside scene, with lush greens and leisurely moving water. Just above the treeline, billowing clouds linger before revealing a soft blue sky. "I find in the trees a peace hard to describe - they have personality and feel like us," says artist Andres Lopez. "This painting reflects the harmony and tranquility of an afternoon by the riverside."
About the Artist
Andres Lopez was born in the old Cuban town of Santa Clara. As a child, he developed a deep love for the beauty of the countryside and the exquisite architecture of his hometown. He participated in drawing contests at the tender age of nine where landscapes were always his favorite theme. In his early twenties, Andres made his way to Florida, bringing only his worn-out brushes and a great dream. Immediately captivated by the beauty of the Everglades, his works display the close relationship between humanity and the natural world around us.

- Ochre FieldBy Mandy MainLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
A panoramic landscape of Montegabbro, a tiny medieval village in the heart of Tuscany. We stayed here four years ago and loved it so much we will be returning this fall, says Mandy Main. In the foreground, the ochre and sienna toned field leads the eye into the painting. The green countryside and distant violet hills are loosely rendered, mostly using a palette knife. Shafts of light at the horizon lead the eye up to the dramatic warm clouds sweeping across the pale periwinkle blue sky. An iconic Tuscan palette. The edges of the gallery wrapped canvas are painted a dark espresso color.About the Artist
Mandy Main is an art historian and landscape painter based in the Southern California desert. She has long been passionate about 19th Century American landscape paintings, which has been influential in her artistic practice. Mandy works in series, generally three paintings at a time. Her process begins with a vision of a place she has been, but she takes creative liberties with the aesthetic details. The artist is captivated by light and shadow, and strives to instill her work with moody drama through the representation of these elements. Using layers of paint and glazes, Mandy achieves mesmerizing atmospheric depth, encouraging the viewer to gaze and be still.Ochre Field...

- "Shipyard" Realist Industrial LandscapeBy Robert LavinLocated in Austin, TXThis painting is a 20th century realist landscape depiction of a shipyard by Robert Lavin. The piece is executed in oil on board and measures 10" x 24". Robert Lavin was born in New York City. His education included Townsend Harris, a prep school in New York followed by college at City College of New York. He also attended the National Academy of Art, where he studied as a painter. Studying the social realists of the 1930’s, Lavin, a former Marine pilot, portrayed steelworkers, roughnecks and trainmen. Lavin often painted his “proletarian ballets”- as one critic called them – to illustrate magazine advertisements. The Smithsonian Institution and other museums collected Lavin’s original paintings, which portrayed the laboring subjects with dignity and integrity. Lavin also illustrated stock certificates and books. Paper Money magazine praised him as “one of the greatest vignette artists of the 20th century.” In addition to this, Lavin was for a number of years an Associate Professor of Art at City College of New York, a position he left in the mid ‘60’s in order to devote himself full time to his painting. His commissions took him around the world, from the North Sea to the coast of Africa, from the slopes of Alaska to the Sea of Japan. As part of a series for Gulf Oil, he painted the royal family of England for the opening of a new refinery in Wales. Another portrait of one of the early Americanastronauts, appeared on the cover of Time Magazine. Other major commissions during these years included Readers Digest books...Category
