I wanted to tone down the electric violet at sunset and reworked the foreground several times to achieve this mood. At the end, the barn popped and the mossy green rough popped off the canvas but in a subtle way not to detract from the relaxed end of day mood of the scene.
About the Artist
Inspired by artists Wolf Kahn and David Hockney, Sean Williams triumphs color theory above all else in his work. “I try to use color as a compositional element rather than an emotional or decorative element,” says Sean. Each piece starts with a controlled color palette, and he strives to be mindful about his proportions of each color used. Vibrant hues including lime green, turquoise, and magenta are common in Sean’s paintings. The work is also marked by clean, modern lines and dynamic compositions. Each piece evokes meditative tranquility with its precise and delicate execution. When he’s not making art, Sean dabbles in carpentry and hopes to begin building furniture.

- Green Street, Bodie, California, Oil PaintingBy Doug CosbieLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
This work is from Doug's painting trip to Bodie, California. He worked to show the rolling clouds, late day shadows and burnished color emblematic of the arid, hot day. Part of Doug's signature series of plein air paintings, capturing the character and enduring beauty of the rural American landscape. He says he loves working outdoors, where all of his senses are engaged. "It is a very creative environment, as you have to work quickly as nature changes," Doug explains. "I ignore what I don't want so the confusion of shapes and colors are reduced to the essentials. The key is to modify or even eliminate objects, as it's rare you will ever find ready-made compositions."About the Artist

- Delta Tree, Oil PaintingBy Hadley NorthropLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
This painting is of a double redwood tree in a small town on the California Delta. I love this Victorian street at night and its combination of giant ancient trees and whimsical decorative lights.About the Artist
Hadley’s subject matter is inspired by her San Francisco surroundings, particularly the city at night. Her glowing depictions of light sources are reminiscent of a blurred photograph or a bleary-eyed nighttime stroll. Hadley developed her love for art from her mother, a watercolorist, and continued to pursue her artistic career at a collegiate level and beyond. She now works out of a small studio in San Francisco’s Mission District. Hadley goes into her studio seven days a week with her Boston terrier puppy.Words that describe this painting: California, night time, small work, Christmas lights, fairy lights, redwood, trees, Port Costa...
