About the Item
Artist Comments
A glimpse of rising layers of the landscape and a moody sky through the narrow opening of an arch and medieval buildings in Tuscany. Warm palette of ochre, sienna, olive green and soft violet gray for the distant hills. A trio of features are clearly defined - the streetlight, a pot on the patio, and the drainpipe in the upper right - move the eye, but the painting focuses on light, shape and color rather than detail. The gallery wrapped edges are painted a dark espresso color.
About the Artist
Mandy Main is an art historian and landscape painter based in the Southern California desert. She has long been passionate about 19th Century American landscape paintings, which has been influential in her artistic practice. Mandy works in series, generally three paintings at a time. Her process begins with a vision of a place she has been, but she takes creative liberties with the aesthetic details. The artist is captivated by light and shadow, and strives to instill her work with moody drama through the representation of these elements. Using layers of paint and glazes, Mandy achieves mesmerizing atmospheric depth, encouraging the viewer to gaze and be still.

- Little London Street, Oil PaintingBy Hadley NorthropLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
Inspired by a photograph, artist Hadley Northrop beautifully captures the enduring charm of a little street that remains unchanged over the years. "There is something irresistible about lit-up windows at night," shares Hadley. Set against the cobalt blue sky, the lights ranging from cream to persimmon cast a warm and inviting glow to the scene. "I used to live in England and loved the ordinary old buildings."About the Artist
Hadley’s subject matter is inspired by her San Francisco surroundings, particularly the city at night. Her glowing depictions of light sources are reminiscent of a blurred photograph or a bleary-eyed nighttime stroll. Hadley developed her love for art from her mother, a watercolorist, and continued to pursue her artistic career at a collegiate level and beyond. She now works out of a small studio in San Francisco’s Mission District. Hadley goes into her studio seven days a week with her Boston terrier puppy.Words that describe this painting: London, Hoxton, doors, windows, evening, night, nocturne, England, Britain, lights, twilight, roof, building, architecture, oilpaint, facade, small, modern, travel, city, architecture, travel, modern , oil painting, brown

- Scottish Impressionist 20th century oil, figures inside a clothing marketBy Murray McNeel Caird UrquhartLocated in Woodbury, CTScottish Impressionist 20th century oil, figures inside a clothing market. He exhibited at the Royal Academy; Royal Society of British Artists; Royal Hibernian Academy; Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts; Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. Murray Urquhart was the son of Dr. Andrew Urquhart, Oakley, Kirkcudbright. His mother, who died two weeks after Murray’s birth, was the daughter of Alexander McNeel Caird, Procurator Fiscal for Wigtownshire. This is a very unusual subject and market scenes like this are quite rare, I guess due to the complex nature of the subject and the difficulty in balancing the composition. The artist has done a wonderful job of painting this subject, it is a wonderful example of Scottish Impressionist painting...Category
