About the Item

Signed lower right, 'J. Gaulke' for Judith Gaulke (American, born 1946) and painted circa 1995; additionally titled, verso, 'Biot, France' and signed. Since her first solo show in 1989, Judith has happily pursued the love of painting with oils on canvas. Since 1992, she has also focused on intaglio graphic work, particularly her series of etchings. A resident of Atherton, California, Gaulke has exhibited widely and with success throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area as well as in Hawaii, and Oregon. She has also been a regular exhibitor at the Holbrook Palmer Park, Jennings Pavilion. (2006, 2009, 2010, 2011.)

    Costa Rica! Still Life with Guitar, Fruit, Wine, and Newsprint in Oil on Canvas Still life in a semi-cubist style by Irene Pattinson (American, 1909-1999). On a reddish-purple table, there is a plate with two apples, a bottle of wine, and an acoustic guitar. The guitar's headstock is shown extending from where the neck meets the body, implying a cubist interpretation of the scene. At the back of the still life arrangement, there is a (collage) newspaper with "Costa Rica!" in the headline. At the left of the composition, there is a curtain or cloth draped across part of the scene. Signed "Irene Pattinson" on verso. No frame.
