Depicting two interconnected figures caught in a never-ending embrace, this painting is a meditation on the endless cycle of passion, self-doubt, burn-out, and struggle all artists live through. In many ways, to be an artist- or any passionate, driven person- is to choose a life of inner pain. But we would not be ourselves without our art, and the struggle and doubt is worth the limitless joy of creation. The struggle and the joy are intertwined, and we can't have one without the other.
About the Artist
Sumner Crenshaw infuses her work with movement, lines and varying degrees of color. She currently lives in Maryland and finds inspiration in the work of Salvador Dali. Her goal is to keep exploring the minimalist, narrative surrealism she's been moving toward.
