Rose Freymuth-Frazier Employing the techniques of the past in the service of contemporary exploration, I seek to add a fresh voice to the sometimes venerable, sometimes dusty and archaic tradition of large-scale figurative painting, while subtly addressing the mythology, objectification and subjugation of women. My subjects are at first glance close to home-new mothers, friends, lovers, artists, dancers-but are then quickly placed at a distance via edgy modification, rigorous technique, minimal contexts and composition, and idiosyncratic use of color. I am also interested in social presentation, artifice, and simulation as they relate to my subjects. I hope to peel away a gossamer thin layer of reality, not just to document the real but also to reveal what might be. BIOGRAPHY Given my restless history, it is curious that I became a figurative painter in New York City. My maternal Grandparents fled Hitler's Germany in the late 1930's. From GUCCI in Wonderland series
GUCCI in Wonderland series contains two parts.
First one, GUCCI in wonderland, is an inspiration that came to John Paul Fauves after doing a 10 piece collection of some Alessandro Michele art campaigns.
There was so much magic realism in the GUCCI brand and concept that transcended from being a clothing label to something more surreal. It is here when the artist decides to give a hold to his new collection for 2018 named "holy exit" and dive into this new world of colors and wonders.
The second part, Alice in Wonderland, represents the artist a world of fantasy and dreams. It seems as if the author Lewis Caroll could write like a dream.
The same concept of surrealism is what FAUVES feels about Gucci design and branding. It as if Gucci can design and create form the world of dreams, and this is what the artist wants to represent in his art GUCCI in wonderland.
ABOUT John Paul FAUVES:
John Paul Fauves (born in 1980) is a contemporary Artist from Costa Rica . His artistic journey started at a very young age after he became a student of Joaquin Rodriguez del Paso , one of the most important Costa Rican modern art tutors. John Paul spent 15 years studying and mastering his technique, and only a few years ago he finally started showcasing his work.
In his paintings he engages questions of identity as they relate to art history as well as our everyday interactions with mainstream culture and social media. Greatly inspired by modernist masters as wellas pop-artists, Fauves mixes fragments of different iconic images in vivid and colourful compositions. Of his experimental and high eclectic style, he says, “art is an expression from the soul, and the soul is somethinglimitless. This is why I am always searching for different elements to bring into the work.”

A finely painted scene by Frank Moss Bennett depicting three gentlemen in 18th century costume conversing at a table. One of the men, dressed as a lawyer, looks over a document whilst the others smoke from clay tobacco pipes.
Frank Moss Bennett was a portrait and genre painter who was born in Liverpool on November 15, 1874. He was the son of the Iron Founder Henry Mellor Bennett who was also became mayor of Liverpool. His family’s wealth enabled him to receive a good education, initially with a governess and then at Clifton College in Bristol. His talent for art emerged at a young age, however it was not until he left Bristol that he decided to follow a career in painting.
He moved to London in 1892, most likely with his family who went to live in Croydon after his father’s retirement. There he studied at the Slade School of Art where he was taught by Henry Tonks and John Singer Sargent. He also met fellow artist Eddie Wells who became his friend, travel partner and brother-in-law. He later attended the St John’s School of Art and in 1896 entered the Royal Academy school, winning a gold medal and a scholarship to travel. He began exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1898 with a work entitled ‘A Book Plate’, continuing to exhibit there until 1929. He also exhibited at the Paris Salon, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour.
In 1900, Bennett used his scholarship money to go on a painting expedition to Italy with his friend Wells. On his return he lived with his family at 18 Warrington Road, Croydon and took a studio nearby at Alipore, Duppas Hill, where he began specialising in historical genre and portraits. His work portrayed life in seventeenth and eighteenth century England, depicting figures in tavern interiors, gentlemen discussing affairs of State or at leisure in their homes. He wanted his works to be historically accurate and used authentic props and antiques. He also accrued a large collection of costumes, some of which were later given to the Platt Hall Museum, Manchester and the Museum of London. He also developed an interest in historical architecture, particularly Tudor and made many sketches of buildings...

This last work will have been used as cover page for the invitation 4 pages-card to the exhibition which took place from October 18 to November 10, 1978 at La Cadrerie - Galerie Edouard Chaix-Bryan, 23 rue du Docteur Fiolle in Marseille. With frame: 82x71 cm - 32.3x28 inches ; without frame: 65x54cm - 25.6x21.3 inches. 5F format. Signed "Trofimoff" and dated "92". Titled on the back (see photos).
Pierre Trofimoff was born October 20, 1925 in Marseille in a very traditional bourgeois family, distant Polish origin. Very early, he declares a desire to become a painter. At 10, he entered the Melizan Institute in Marseille. His teenage vacation, he spent them in the house of his grandmother in Revest-les-Eaux near Toulon. In the countryside, he observes many artists drawing or painting on the motif, like the painter Eugène Baboulène and the sculptor Dionisi. Later, he will meet on the same place the engraver Decaris. Little encouraged by his family in his vocation, he was denied entry to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille. However, he will go there as a free listener every Thursday
It's the war. He is an inveterate museum-goer and deprives himself of cinema to buy books of Art. He likes Puget, Loubon, Delacroix, Courbet. Later Van Gogh, Soutine, Modigliani, Leprin, Pascin, Marquet, Dufu, Braque and Verdilhan by which he will be influenced.
At the end of the war, Trofimoff works as a leather and hides broker. But simultaneously, he works his painting. A beautiful woman sits at an open window, gazing down at a small bird who has landed nearby in this serene portrait by Charles Levier. Warm orange tones are played off their complements in shades of blue, the artist utilizing several different layers of oils to create a subtle and relaxed view of a spring day near the sea. Beyond the window a small chapel sits on a peninsula, surrounded tranquil blue waters.
This work, like many of Levier's, belongs to the French figurative movement of the Glorious Thirty (Les Trente Glorieuses) - the golden period of thirty years after WWII which were a time of great hope and prosperity in France. Inspired by Hollywood cinema, Charles Levier sought harmony in composition and purity of color and form. His said that his creations represented "a light and delicate world, of dark and subtle shades and colors."
Levier worked in a somewhat abstracted, cubist style. Additionally he often employed the French technique of "cloisonnism" (after the French for "partition"), a style of post-Impressionist painting with bold and flat forms separated by dark contours, also seen in this work.
