This fabulous original Film Fun cover painting by Enoch Bolles appeared on their September 1933 edition with the title Worth Wading For. In an effort to make the most of the end of summer, a flirty modernist red-headed bathing beauty flapper girl dares the cold water as she embarks on her first step in on a seaside frolic. Like many of Bolles's Film Fun covers this was re-licensed for calendar publication use by The Thos. D. Murphy Calendar Company of Red Oak Iowa in the late 1930s. The company made ink blotters and advertising brochures for some of their clients using these iconic pin-up girls but strangely they never made any large format calendars using the images. Grapefruit Moon Gallery previously sold this painting in 2015 and are delighted to offer it again for sale!
Painting is handsomely framed in an antique c. 1930 wide profile gessoed frame and ready to hang. We had the canvas cleaned and professionally relined as it was very thin and somewhat fragile. The painting is in a remarkable state of conservation, and just a defining example by one of the best pin-up artists of all time.
