About the Item

Amanda’s large vibrant canvases vibrate with colour, life and energy - they are reflections of places in the natural world where ‘heaven meets earth’ - places that resonate with the soul and make her feel fully alive. Amanda has lived and worked as an artist, a graphic designer and an art educator in the Blue Mountains for 22 years. She graduated in 1991 from the University of Technology, Sydney, with a Bachelor of Design, Visual Communication. Amanda also studied painting and drawing with the artist Norma McDonald. Norma was taught by well known Australian artists in the Bathurst region in the 1930’s to 40’s. The painting skills Amanda learnt with Norma have been the foundation of her artistic career. “Once you are free of the constraints of thought, and the form dissolves, you are able to see the flower as purely light, shade, colours, texture, delicacy - you become the flower and you begin to understand you are the flower and the flower is you - light, energy, shadow, beauty, tones, colours, folds, patterns - particles vibrating with energy and light - looking up to the sun, being nurtured in rich dark soil, swaying in the breeze, wilting and then returning back to the earth, just as you do. The flower is the doorway into the true essence of your being - the energy and light that is you, in all of it’s unique brilliance...” Abundance, a stunning botanical painting, of the Australian native Waratah, stunningly painted in bold reds, set against a strikingly typical brilliant blue Aussie sky, contrasted with accentuated greens in the foreground.
