"Offerings" Oil painting 14" x 14" inch by Alaa AbuElhamd
Alaa Abo El-Hamd transports you to the inside of an ancient Egyptian tomb. The artist skillfully manipulates paint, contrasting the ethereal faces with patterned backgrounds. We are left with hauntingly beautiful faces, neatly packed into two, long, adjacent canvases, telling stories of a very old Egypt.
His paintings feel familiar, yet they are rare to encounter and mystifying to experience. A significant, potent painter whose works speak boldly of the past and the present, Alaa brings a sensibility and benevolence to all his portraits of Egyptian men and women: ethereal beings who are both vulnerable flesh and eternal souls, tied to their histories yet ever living for the future. There is simply a timelessness to his paintings. They are sublime works of art, full of grace, heritage, and hope.
