Edward. B. Herberte Edward Benjamin Herberte was an English sporting and animal painter from the last half of the 19th century. He mostly painted fox hunting scenes. village fairs and point to point horse subjects. This work is somewhat similar in style and composition with that of John Frederick Herring Sr, a famous English sporting painter. The painting is in excellent condition and is an oil on canvas which has been laid down onto a panel of wood. It is monogrammed E.H, and dates from the 1880s. The piece is framed in an English giltwood sporting style frame. This size and composition would work in many different rooms in a home, such as a dining area, bedroom, entrance hallway, or study This type and quality of painting would have been painted for the wealthy British patrons for either their country houses or their grand townhouses in areas in London like Mayfair, Belgravia and Chelsea, and Kensington
