About

Paula Cahill’s blue background linear painting is part of the “Cartouche” series. This multi colored drawing on blue painted canvas is based on a study of ancient Egyptian art, particularly the hieroglyphic cartouche. This series represents a deep respect for the canons of Egyptian artisans followed along with a wish to upset and subvert the rectilinear order seen in Egyptian imagery for centuries. This painting is made of a single continuous line comprised of hundreds of gradients. The first “Cartouche” painting by Cahill was acquired by Morgan Stanley. Paula Cahill studied the figure for many years before transitioning to complex, abstract paintings. Her linear abstract compositions, such as this, are comprised of a single, luminous line that meanders, changes color, and seamlessly connects back to itself. Her works are in the numerous private and public collections including Temple University; Capital One; PNC Bank Corporation and Aramark.
