Rosebud, 2013, is a large scale oil painting by abstract geometric artist, Kati Vilim. This abstraction is an optical illusion, with cascading cubical forms in a series of red hues on a flat white background. Some of the cubic forms overlap and many appear as though they were once folded into a form that is now unfolded. A prolific emerging female artist, Kati's pieces explore the world of form, color and composition. Even her largely geometric works have a biomorphic sensibility to them, communicating a mood and allowing space for the viewer to explore their own response to the work. "Rosebud" has a minimalist aesthetic, with layered redundant forms in organic patterns rendered in overlapping red, deep red, burgundy, pale red, coral, and maroon on a saturated white field. Kati's angular abstract shapes, painted with hard edge lines, epitomize the best of nonobjective art, breathing life into forms otherwise overlooked. Kati enjoys painting with oil on canvas on wood panel, as it helps her achieve the textures and lines she intends.
