About the Item

Untitled, 2017, Oil on Canvas, 30 x 40 Inches A brilliantly colored, gorgeous and lush abstraction, very expressionist and fluid in style in orange, yellow, aqua, green and white. There are many available related square works in this series in 30" x 30" and 36" x 36", as well as a large series of 8" x 8" paintings, so groupings are also a possibility for installations. The artist also considers the 8" x 8" paintings as studies for larger works that can be commissioned in any size. The paint surface is heavy impasto. This painting is unframed. The sides are painted white. "Linda Holt: Recent Abstractions" will be on view at the Beth Urdang Gallery in Boston from September 21 - October 27, 2018. Linda Holt was raised in Philadelphia and lived in England, Alabama and Virginia before attending the Paris American High School and graduating from Skidmore College with a BS in fine art in 1970. She received an MFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania where she studied with Neil Welliver. Holt’s paintings have been seen in 19 one-person exhibitions, over 50 group exhibitions, and in addition to numerous private collections, Holt’s paintings are included in many public collections including the Wichita Center for the Arts, Wellington Management, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Fidelity Investments, Mass General Hospital, and the Seaport and Reef Hotels. Selected reviews include articles in “The Boston Globe,” “Art New England,” and the “Houston Chronicle.” Holt was awarded the Nathaniel Saltonstall Purchase Prize in Drawing, has been a Trustee and Visiting Artist at Montserrat College, a Guest Critic at FIT in New York, and a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania. Fritz Bultman (1919-1985) was an American Abstract Expressionist painter, sculptor, and collagist and a member of the New York School of artists. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and moved to Germany to join the Bauhaus at the age of 16. There, he was acquainted with Maria Hofmann, the wife of Hans Hofmann, which initiated a move to New York to study under his guidance. Bultman set himself apart from other Abstract Expressionists with his meticulously organized abstract compositions, use of sculpture, and the adoption of collage as a core practice. In 1950, Fritz Bultman and 27 other distinguished artists signed a letter protesting the conservative nature of the work selected for a forthcoming national exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The signees of this historic letter were identified as, the “Irascibles,” resulting in the majority achieving international acclaim as Abstract Expressionist artists including Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko, among others. Throughout his life Fritz Bultman received several awards including Fulbright and Guggenheim Fellowships and was a founding member of the Long Point...
