About the Item

Katherine Borkowski-Byrne’s “Unearthing” is an energetic multi-colored abstract oil painting, 22 x 17.5 x 1.5 inches on oil-prepared paper within a maple shadow-box frame. “Unearthing has thick texture and spontaneous brushwork with saturated reds and greens dominating on a misty grey background. Large areas of pure color were added and then white splashed on in a wet-on-wet technique directly mixing in purples, yellows, and oranges onto the paper. The signature can be found inside the frame on back of the painting. Katherine paints while listening to opera and translates the many layered-music into many-layered paintings. She is influenced by the art of the New York School of Abstract Expressionism with it’s focus on being in the moment and the use of fortunate accidents and experimental techniques. Katherine’s work is in many corporate and private collections. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
