"Cabana", by Anthony Dyke is a 36" x 48" x 1.5" oil on canvas painting. Its flag-like imagery is influenced by Jasper Johns' flag paintings. The layered and scraped surface in tropical blues, greens, whites and yellow, and its horizontal banding depicts a flag-like presence. The title references the bright, clear colors one might find in beach structures in seaside resorts. Anthony Dyke was born in Norwich, Vermont and attended The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University earning a BFA and MFA in painting. As an artist and arts educator, he relocated from New York City to his down¬town Oklahoma City studio, working there for two decades before returning to Boston in 2020. Coming from VERMONT where the seasons are distinctly different from one another. My shift from a pastoral setting to an urban environment set up a dichotomy in my work, both visual and emotional. I have an extensive education in painting, photography, graphic design and figure sculpture. These mediums intersect in my work through many years of creating artworks and currently speak to my interest in abstract painting. Susan Morrison-Dyke's 35.25" x 23.5" (paper size) Oil on Paper painting uses the device of a window to illustrate the boundary between interior and exterior worlds. The view from the interior or exterior is ambiguous and allows the viewer to interpret their own desired orientation. "Fenway Studio Window personalizes the experience of working in my studio during the longest days of a world pandemic," says Morrison-Dyke. This framed abstract painting features a variety of colors including creams, oranges, blues and lavenders. Susan Morrison-Dyke graduated with a BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University and received the James William Paige Traveling Scholarship, a prestigious 5th Year graduate program award. She was later awarded the Clarissa Bartlett Traveling Fellowship for Alumni at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
