'Prayer For Peace No. 3', glows with the shades of natures turquoise green and blue in this abstract rhythmic grid painting where the artist repeats meditates on peace for the Earth. An African prayer is repeated from top to bottom in this meditative contemporary work in archival ink over the oil paint. The prayer reads, "Let us take care of the elders for they have come a long way. Let us take care of the children for they have a long way to go. Let us take care of those in between for it is they who do the work".
Inspired by Taoist teachings and meditations, with a focus on color, rhythm and flow. Matuszewski creates meditative and harmonious color field paintings to invoke a sense of peace. Each painting starts with a hand drawn graphite grid of 1/2 inch squares, that are slowly filled in — one at a time — in a ritualistic and meditative manner, in order to create depth, variation and texture. The artist likes the quiet in her process, which allows her to "listen to what the work wants to be."
The artist is inspired by anonymous artisans, usually women and children, who have worked for centuries, and continue to work, laboriously, to create beautiful fabrics and textiles to clothe, decorate and bring warmth and beauty to everyday life. The 58 x 36 oil on canvas is created with graphite pencil line drawing and archival ink on canvas. Wired and ready to hang and enjoy. No framing required.
