About the Item
Artist Commentary:
For ten years I lived in Minnesota and had a studio in Northeast Minneapolis, which I loved. When I moved to the city, I began to paint compositions of abstracted crowds of people as imagined from above. Can you envision this painting as a large crowd of people? You can hang this either horizontally or vertically. A little impressionistic in expression, this painting also reminds me of a garden of happy flowers.

Hughes studied Studio Art and English at Fordham University in New York and received an MFA in Painting from the University of Chicago. Her work is exhibited widely in galleries and art centers and collected nationally. She is currently represented by Walker Fine Art in Denver, Colorado, and Bozzuto-Greene Fine Art near Baltimore, Maryland. Farida's artwork resides in several private and corporate collections, including Target, United Health Group, and Chesapeake Capital. Several pieces were acquired in 2020 by the VCU Health Systems in Richmond, Virginia, and by Beatty Development in Baltimore, Maryland. - Variations on Natural Occurrences 2By Farida HughesLocated in Boston, MAArtist Commentary: This painting is from my "Common Threads" series comprised of abstract paintings that metaphorically allude to the links, or threads, tying people, groups, and communities together across differences. We often find ourselves faced with addressing the differences between people, via identity, politics, economic stature, family origin, and more. Real entwined thread, or pulled lengths of wool, in the Common Threads paintings are a metaphor for commonly shared experiences bridging these different identity issues. Shared experiences bind people and their histories together in intimately interesting ways. I am working to use these links and metaphoric threads as a means to find common ground and harmony. Keywords: abstract, pastel colors, linear, lines, thread, calm, meditative, circles, pink, green, blue, ivory, antique white Details about the piece: - This is a hand painted, original painting - Created in Baltimore, Maryland, USA - Professional grade oil paints and ArtResin on wood panel - Other materials include professional grade watercolor, oil pastel, and thread - Wood Panel with Birchwood face and 1.5" Poplar wood cradle - Ready to hang with wires and D ring - Signed on the back - Certificate of authenticity and care sheet included with original Artist Biography: Farida Hughes’ lively and intriguing abstract paintings take their inspiration from the gathering and dispersing of crowds, group relationships, and shared histories and stories of people.
