Eugenia Sumiye Okoshi
Nothing but Ashes

1957

About the Item

The painting represents the artist's interpretation of the scene she observed while traveling slowly through Hiroshima by train in 1945/46 as a young woman, shortly after the bomb was dropped. Okoshi was born in America and with considerable difficulty she was able to prove her citizenship and return to the United States. After becoming an established artist in New York City, she completed the painting "Nothing but Ashes". 41" x 29" in custom 23k gold leaf frame in new condition.
