Denise Driscoll
"Circles 30 (Elemental)", abstract, geometric, circles, dots, acrylic painting

2015

About the Item

Denise Driscoll's “Circles 30 (Elemental)” is a versatile modular acrylic painting on four panels representing Fire, Water, Air and Earth that can be configured in multiple arrangements. All four 36 x 36 inch panels may hang together as one large 72 x 72 inch painting. They may also be split into two horizontal arrangements that are 36 x 72 or into two verticals that are 72 x 36. Finally, the four panels may stand alone as separate but related 36 x 36 inch paintings. The entire painting is composed of dots that float above a pattern of interlocking circles arranged over a penciled grid. The underlayers of paint are applied in delicate fractals and washes of color. The final layer of dots both obscures and highlights the surface below and is arranged in spirals and other patterns that vary from panel to panel. Denise Driscoll is a contemporary painter exploring themes of interconnection, inner experience, and invisible social structures. This painting epitomizes her exploration of the similarities found between micro- and macroscopic perspectives. Her work has been shown throughout New England and is widely collected. Driscoll is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

    By Otto Rogers

Using his characteristic rich earthy palette, Otto Rogers has captured the subtle variations in light as it changes along a seashore. This piece has soft grays, rich brown, and black colours highlighted by a flash of royal blue and burnt orange. As one of Canada’s preeminent modernist artists, Rogers found inspiration in both his deep faith as a Baha’i and the beauty of nature so often reflected in his stunning work. This is acrylic and graphite on paper. “The purpose of art is to lift the human spirit.” Otto Rogers He acquired his MA in Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin and later taught at the University of Saskatchewan for almost 30 years.
