A white house sits at the edge of lake, overlooking the rippling water and autumn landscape. "In this piece, I wanted to demonstrate the most basic duality, that of warm versus cool," says artist Robert Hofherr. "In lieu of too much specific detail, I applied bold color thickly and with verve, is the order of the day. The composition is fairly simple - a series of sweeping curves intersecting and leading the eye to the white house in the center."
About the Artist
Robert Hofherr avoids depicting a landscape exactly as he sees it or as the viewer might expect. Instead, he enjoys reimagining landscapes and painting his pieces indoors at a fairly rapid pace. The works of French Fauve artists Maurice de Vlaminck and André Derain initially got him interested in painting, and also influenced his decision to not use grey in his works. During his free time he enjoys spending time with his kids, walking his dogs and taking road trips to out-of-way places in the mid-Atlantic region. He currently lives in Maryland.

Artist Rebecca Klementovich offers a vibrant mountainside view filled with multi-colored trees inspired by the Washington Valley of New Hampshire. "It is my favorite painting influenced by a hike on the mountain trail," shares Rebecca. "I grew up near the mountains and have spent so much time there. Artist Rebecca Klementovich paints expressionist views of the New England landscape. Merging her lifelong interest in fashion, she co-founded the group Femme Fatales of the North. "We are painting in gowns on the tops of mountains and slapping paint on canvases," says Rebecca. "We are an example of who the northern women are as artists." Her colorful palette and gestural style draw influence from her long career in the fashion world. Rebecca studied fashion illustration at FIT in New York and worked as a textile designer and art director for over twenty years. After leaving New York, she moved to northern New Hampshire near Mount Washington. "The mountains are nostalgic and lyrical, and this greatly affected my landscapes."
