About

"Food of the Gods: Studio Selection: Chives" is the second in the "Food of the Gods" series by Charles Bremer. The work features a single Chive flower blossom against a black background. Bremer's process is unique. The works are encaustic photographs. The figure is shot in black and white using a Hasselblad camera and then hand painted with various pigments, such as lampblack and silk dye. Next, layers of encaustic beeswax are applied for a beautiful visual effect. The work is signed towards the bottom of the piece. The work can also be sold individually or as a series. This work, along with its counterparts, "Food of the Gods: Studio Selection: Baby Blueberries" and "Food of the Gods: Studio Selection: Fiddlehead, were created for and exhibited in "Food for Thought" at Louis K. Meisel gallery, a small works show thematically based on food. Charles Bremer has explored a wide breadth of creative medium in his career ranging from photography and drawing to theatre stage sets, sculpture and experimental sound. His work has been exhibited in galleries, museums and art centers both in the United States and internationally. Much of his graphic work explores a synthesis of the natural elements with the human body through a highly developed method of hand painted prints. He is an accomplished master in the technique of encaustic wax glazing. Recent exhibitions have included studies of old art supplies, collaborative projects explore text and image, and a photographic series - From "Two Dancers" at the National Museum of Dance.
