Mary Amendola Marley
"In any Event", abstract, landscape, red, gray, black, encaustic painting

2017

About the Item

Mary Marley's “In any Event” is a 12 x 12 x 2 inch encaustic painting of intense color and texture that is part of an abstracted landscape series. Predominantly red, gray and black with touches of teal, layers of wax and paint produce a rich surface of leaves contrasted against a shattered sun. Painted on birch panel, the back is wired, signed and ready to hang. Mary Marley is a contemporary painter exploring themes of chaos, order, the force of becoming and transformation. Currently working with encaustic paint, her approach is highly experimental, pushing the boundaries with this ancient medium. She is attracted to encaustic for its luminous properties and the endless variations that can be achieved with this multifaceted medium. The use of encaustic allows for layering colors, achieving a glowing surface of depth. Using color and texture inspired from the organic world, Mary's work incorporates patterns and structures all roiling together to an image of impermanence. Mary teaches visual art and her works have been featured throughout the United States and Canada. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
